Sina Education, 8/02/17
Guangzhou-based Liuyi Information Technology, operator of online and mobile art education platform Hualala, recently announced completion of RMB 8-digit Series A funding. Li Wei, founder of Hualala, said that funding was led by K-12 after-school tutoring service provider TAL Education Group (NYSE: TAL) with participation from Zhenge Education Fund. Following the funding round, the company will recruit more teaching staff, invest in educational R&D, and improve its course experience for children.
Hualala uses video, animation, and interactive games to offer online instruction to help children learn to paint at home and reach their maximum potential. The platform currently offers courses through Tencent's (0700.HK) WeChat mobile messaging platform and its own online website. Hualala caters to children between the ages of 6 and 12.
Hualala, launched in 2015, currently serves hundreds of thousands of users. Its WeChat public account has more than 700,000 followers and more than 100,000 users participate in its open classes every week. Its student members include users from more than 500 cities throughout China, and the platform is gradually expanding its services to reach overseas Chinese users in Australia, North America, and Northern Europe.
In addition to financial support, TAL Education Group will also provide resource support to Hualala, such as strategic consulting and illustration archives.
