Didi Chuxing Tests Feature Allowing Users to Purchase Rides for Others

Sina Tech, 8/02/17

Xiaoju Kuaizhi Inc ("Didi Chuxing"), operator of Chinese mobile taxi booking and car hire apps Didi Chuxing and Kuaidi Dache, has begun testing a new feature that allows users to purchase rides for others.

The feature, called "Didi Chepiao," allows users to set a route, and Didi Chuxing will then turn this route into an electronic ticket which can be shared with a friend on the WeChat mobile messaging app. The friend can then use the e-ticket to call for a Didi Chuxing ride. After the passenger arrives at the pre-determined destination, the Didi Chuxing user who purchased the e-ticket can complete payment online using the Didi Chuxing app.

The recipient of the e-ticket does not need to download and register with Didi Chuxing to use the e-ticket, as everything can be done directly within WeChat.

The Didi Chepiao function is currently available in Wuhan, Guangzhou, and Chengdu, with additional cities to be added in the future.
