WeChat Beta Tests Friend-screening Function for Rarely Contacted Friends

A screenshot from an internal beta test version of Tencent's (0700.HK) WeChat mobile messaging app has been circulated online showing a function for screening out friends who are not often contacted from one's WeChat friends list.
Options include screening out contacts with whom the user has not had a private chat within the past six months, contacts who are not in any of the same group chats as the user, and contacts whose WeChat Moments posts have not been responded to by the user within the past six months.
When reached for confirmation by online news outlet The Mirror, a spokesperson for WeChat did not confirm that the above feature would be added in the new version, and only stressed that the current version is still in testing and specific features to be included are subject to change until the update is released.
