Online Information Platform WhatYouNeed Secures RMB 6 Mln Angel Funding

Guangzhou-based Yangsan Culture Communication, operator of online and mobile content platform WhatYouNeed, has won RMB 6 mln in angel funding from Chinese internet and mobile services firm Tencent (0700.HK) and China Media Capital. With the completion of the funding, WhatYouNeed plans to establish editing and business departments in Beijing, revealed founder Chen Suming.

WhatYouNeed provides original content to young people on popular and current affairs topics, including romance and work problems, through its website and official account on Tencent's messaging app WeChat. Content takes the form of articles with images and audio files. WhatYouNeed also organizes events for young people, such as midnight film screenings.

WhatYouNeed, founded in July 2015, primarily earns revenue through advertising.
