Telecom operator China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) and Chinese consumer electronics and home appliance retailer Suning.com Co., Ltd. (002024.SZ) have signed a strategic partnership agreement focused on promoting smart store upgrades for China Unicom offline service centers, as well as developing big data applications. For the partnership's first phase, a batch of service centers nationwide will be selected to receive supply chain, store operations management, and customer service support provided by Suning to transform them into all-new smart retail stores.
The partnership's big data efforts will mainly focus on credit investigation and precision marketing. The two sides will also plan and establish a joint technology laboratory to research 5G technology applications in areas such as smart home furniture and Internet of Vehicles.
The two parties have also discussed a content partnership strategy, including cooperation in the areas of mobile and TV video content.
