Beijing Capital Airport Tests Facial Recognition System Developed by Baidu
Tencent Tech, 8/23/17
The control center at Beijing Capital Airport is testing a facial recognition system developed by Chinese internet company Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU), which is being used to support employee admission and data monitoring work.
The pilot is part of an agreement between the two parties, which also covers the development of smart systems for airport logistics, security, services, commerce, business management, and information management.
Baidu has already set up AI Q&A robots at Beijing Capital Airport to help provide information consultation services. In the future, the companies will add a facial recognition system for identity verification, which will scan passengers at the gate prior to boarding.
The parties plan to collaborate on indoor navigation, smart parking, smart payments, and personalized information suggestions, as well as smart customer service, traveler credit management, and smart service robots.
Prior to partnering with Beijing Capital Airport, Baidu previously tested its facial recognition technology this June at Nanyang Airport, where it was used at airport security and boarding stages.
