Tencent Tech, 3/07/18
Chinese internet conglomerate Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU) and Chinese consumer electronics manufacturer Haier Group recently announced the formation of an alliance at Haier's 2018 Smart Home Strategy press conference. The two companies will explore new business models in smart home using Baidu's strengths in ABC (AI, Big Data, and Cloud Computing) and Internet of Things (IoT) and Haier's innovations in smart home appliances.
Haier will integrate its U+ platform with Baidu's smart IoT platform "Tiangong" in terms of equipment connections, data storage, and device management. By linking equipment, the alliance will merge the two companies' technology and resources, and greatly enhance Haier's ability to mine data related to its users and networked smart devices.
The alliance also aims to create smart interaction between people and home appliances through the integration of Baidu's AI virtual assistant DuerOS into the Haier U+ platform. Furthermore, Baidu and Haier will jointly explore technical solutions for scenarios such as smart living room, smart kitchen, and smart bathroom. Other hardware equipped with DuerOS will be able to interconnect with Haier appliances connected to the U+ platform.
