China to Dissolve SAPPRFT, Form Radio & TV Bureau Directly under State Council

Caixin, 3/13/18

China's State Council, the country's cabinet, submitted an organizational reform plan for deliberation at the first session of the thirteenth National People's Congress today. The reform plan would scrap the State Administration of Press and Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SAPPRFT) and establish a new administration directly under the control of the State Council to fulfill the duties of radio and television supervision.

According to a speech by State Council committee member Wang Yong, the National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA) would perform the following duties: implement party propaganda policies and guidelines; craft radio and television management policies and oversee implementation; oversee overall planning and guiding of radio and television business and industry development; promote the reform, supervision, and review of mechanisms in the radio and television field concerning content and quality of radio, television, and internet audio and video programs; be responsible for importing, recording, and management of radio and television programs; and coordinate outward promotional work in the radio and television field.
