Yonghui Superstores' Fresh Food Outlet to Begin Drone Delivery Pilot
Tencent Tech, 6/08/18
Yonghui Yunchuang Technology, a subsidiary of Chinese hypermarket and supermarket operator Yonghui Superstores (601933.SH), and Guangzhou-based personal drone developer EHang recently announced a strategic partnership, under which the parties will collaborate on smart retail + drone delivery solutions through a pilot project at the M+ Park outlet of Yonghui's fresh food supermarket brand Super Species in Guangzhou.
Fixed drone-based delivery routes between the M+ Park store and food pickup locations in the vicinity of the store were approved by officials on May 18. Drones can use the authorized routes to deliver items to target communities, and a local delivery courier will receive notice of each arriving package just before the drone arrives to complete final delivery within a 100-meter radius. The new drone delivery service is expected to reduce time requirements for the entire food ordering process from 30 minutes to as little as 15-20 minutes.
The air-based leg of each delivery will be completed by Ehang's four-rotor UAV, which flies at a maximum speed of 40km per hour and delivers up to 500kg of goods within a 4.5-km radius.
