China's November 2025 Domestic Handset Shipments Up 2% YoY, Down 7% MoM

A total of 30.16 mln mobile handsets were shipped in China in November 2025, up 1.9% YoY, but down 6.5% MoM, according to new figures released by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), a department of China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
Of total shipments in November, 27.61 mln, or 91.6%, were 5G handsets, 2.55 mln, or 8.4%, were 4G handsets, and none were 3G and 2G handsets. Note that CAICT breaks out shipment figures only for 5G and 4G models, to the nearest 1,000 units and 10,000 units, respectively.
In the 11-month period from Jan-Nov 2025, a total of 282.08 mln mobile handsets were shipped in China, up 0.9% YoY. Of this total, 244.22 mln, or 86.6%, were 5G handsets, 37.80 mln, or 13.4%, were 4G handsets, and the remaining 62,000, or less than 0.1%, were 3G and 2G handsets.
A total of 23.23 mln handsets from domestic handset brands were shipped in China in November, down 12.6% YoY and 8.0% MoM, accounting for 77.0% of total handset shipments. Shipments of smartphones comprised 28.75 mln units, up 2.0% YoY, but down 8.3% MoM, accounting for 95.3% of total handsets shipped in China in November.
In the 11-month period from Jan-Nov 2025, 240.82 mln handsets from domestic handset brands were shipped in China, up 1.2% YoY, accounting for 85.4% of total handset shipments. During the same 11-month period, shipments of smartphones comprised 261.74 mln, or 92.8%, of total handsets shipped in China.
During the month of November, 31 new handset models were released in China, down 27.9% YoY and 31.1% MoM. Of the total new handset models released during the month, 24, or 77.4%, were 5G models, and 7, or 22.6%, were 4G models; 30, or 96.8%, of the new handset models were from domestic brands, and 24, or 77.4%, were smartphone models.
In the 11-month period from Jan-Nov 2025, 474 new handset models were released in China, up 14.5% YoY; of this total, 223, or 47.0%, were 5G models, and 251, or 53.0%, were 4G models. Of the total new handset models released from Jan-November 2025, 451, or 95.1%, were from domestic brands, and 309, or 65.2%, were smartphone models.
Editor's Note: CAICT's statistics cover domestically produced, domestically shipped handsets from both Chinese and foreign brands, but do not include imported handsets or exports of domestically produced units. Only handsets shipped through official channels are included, meaning grey market or knock-off handsets are not covered in CAICT's figures. "Shipped" means only that the manufacturer shipped the handset to a wholesaler or retailer, where it may or may not have been sold to a consumer during the month under discussion.
