Huawei Halts Sale of Handset Unit

Reuters, 10/09/08

Chinese telecom equipment manufacturer Huawei has announced that due to global market conditions it will be halting the sale of a stake in its mobile handset unit. Last week it was rumored that private equity firms Bain Capital and Silver Lake Partners had formally submitted bids for the division.

Editor's Note: The bids from Bain and Silver Lake were both, reportedly, 25% below Huawei's asking price. Huawei's terminal division produces CDMA and WCDMA handsets and PC data cards as well as ADSL terminals.
