TD-SCDMA to Begin Full Commercial Use in 2009

Yesterday, at the ICT China 2008 High Level Forum, held concurrently with the P&T/Expo Comm China 2008 in Beijing, Yang Hua, Secretary-General of the TD-SCDMA Alliance announced that TD-SCDMA will officially enter commercial use in 2009.

Han Xia, deputy director of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT)'s Department of Telecommunications Management stated that TD-SCDMA subscribers now number more than 300,000, which met with anticipated development goals.

Editor's Note: In late September, an insider at one WCDMA network equipment vendor also revealed that China Unicom plans to launch commercial trials of WCDMA in Beijing in July 2009 and more broadly from September 2009.
