Unstrung, 11/18/08

China Mobile Communications Corporation (CMCC), the parent company of China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK), has announced that it is already planning its LTE network. The company says that it is designing construction of its TD-SCDMA network to allow for a simple migration path to LTE. Bill Huang, general manager of the China Mobile Research Institute, stated that 60% of China Mobile's TD-SCDMA investment can be migrated to LTE in the future. China Mobile has targeted 2010 for the commercial launch of the system, with Huang stating that lab and field trials of LTE are scheduled for early next year, with a "pre-commercial stage" due by the end of 2009.
