GAPP Releases Digital Publishing Statistics

The General Administration of Press and Publication (GAPP) has published its 2007-2008 annual report on China's digital publishing industry. The report shows that in 2007 total revenue for the Chinese digital publishing industry came to RMB 36.2 bln, a 70.15% increase over the 2006 figure. Total revenue from mobile publishing, which includes color ringback tones, ringtones, mobile games and mobile animation, came to RMB 15 bln. Revenue from online games was worth 10.57 bln. Revenue from the electronic bulletin market, including both mobile and online bulletins, was worth RMB 1 bln, and revenue from the blogging industry was RMB 975 mln. E-books generated revenues of RMB 200 mln.

The report estimates that by the end of 2008, total revenues from the Chinese digital publishing industry will reach RMB 53 bln.
