Alcatel-Lucent, Datang Win TD-SCDMA Supply Contracts in 11 Cities

Telecom equipment manufacturer Alcatel-Lucent has announced that a consortium consisting of its Chinese subsidiary, Alcatel-Shanghai Bell (ASB), and Datang Mobile has won supply contracts for network solutions in 11 of the 28 cities covered in China Mobile's second round of TD-SCDMA equipment bidding. The 11 cities include Changchun, Guiyang, Hangzhou, Hefei, Kunming, Lanzhou, Nanjing, Ningbo, Urumqi, Xi'an, and Yinchuan.

Network construction in these 11 cities, comprising the largest share in China Mobile's second phase tender, is to be completed in June of 2009.

In April 2007, as part of China Mobile's first phase of TD-SCDMA construction, Alcatel-Shanghai Bell and Datang Mobile jointly won bids for TD-SCDMA networks in Guangzhou and Shanghai. The two companies deployed over 2,000 base stations in each city with coverage of 1,782 square kilometers in Guangzhou and 1,153 square kilometers in Shanghai, respectively, completing network construction at the end of 2007.
