Chongqing Unicom Launches Mobile Payment Service

Chongqing Unicom and Yucheng Public Transport Card Co have launched a new mobile phone with an embedded RFID chip, allowing the phone to be used to make payments on public transport, in cinemas and at supermarkets.

The phone was developed by Ahong Communication Digital Information Co., Ltd., the mobile phone unit of Changhong, and will cost between RMB 700 and RMB 800. A Chongqing Unicom official indicated that ten mobile manufacturers, including Changhong and Ningbo Bird, have expressed an interest in the service, and that large numbers of this type of phone will be on sale next year.
