China Mobile, Far EasTone Sign MOU for TD-LTE Trial Network

Taiwanese media have reported that China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) VP Sha Yuejia and Far EasTone chairman Douglas Hsu signed a memorandum of understanding yesterday to jointly build a TD-LTE trial network in Taiwan. Today Sha will meet with Chunghwa Telecom chairman Shyue-Ching Lu to discuss cross-strait mobile roaming and 4G technology cooperation.

The two companies will cooperate on trial network and technology development, as well as develop an industry supply chain for 4G technology and applications. Far EasTone will also begin installing a TD-LTE trial network in Taipei to provide Taiwanese vendors and researchers with an environment to conduct network access tests.

In addition to Far EasTone, Taiwanese operators Vibo Telecom and Chunghwa Telecom are also China Mobile partnership targets. Rock Hsu, chairman of Kinpo Group, indicated after meeting with Sha that Vibo Telecom will also build a TD-LTE trial network in cooperation with China Mobile in the future.
