Rumor: MIIT Submits Telecom Law to State Council

CCTIME, 5/24/10

A bill of laws on the telecom industry has reportedly been submitted in draft form to China's State Council for revision and approval. Ceng Jianqiu, a professor at Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT), said that deliberations on the bill could begin as soon as this August.

Laws for the telecom industry were included in the State Council's planned legislative agenda for 2010. The agenda indicated that the new laws, to be drafted by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), would address issues such as protection of an orderly market and telecom users' legal rights, as well as promotion of network convergence.
