Rumor: Spreadtrum Chairman Leaves to Start New Company

China Business News, 6/10/10

A source close to Wu Ping, founder and chairman of Chinese wireless baseband chipset provider Spreadtrum (Nasdaq: SPRD), revealed yesterday that Wu left Spreadtrum earlier this month, and is currently preparing to start a new company. Wu has already registered "Shanghai Xinyi Information Technology" as a company in Shanghai's Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park; the new company will position itself as a mobile internet application developer and terminal equipment designer. The new company is reportedly recruiting employees in Shanghai, Xi'an, and other areas, and will initially employ approximately 150 people.
