Rumor: CNTV to Merge with Baofeng

Tianshannet, 6/13/10

According to an internal source, China Central Television's (CCTV) online television subsidiary China Network Television (CNTV) will merge with domestic media player maker Baofeng. According to the source, CCTV.com's recent formation of CNTV led to an agreement between CCTV and Baofeng for a merger in the near future, though further details are currently unclear.

Liu Jinde, a spokesperson for CCTV.com, said that CNTV would indeed be making a major announcement in the coming days. Baofeng VP Wang Gang confirmed reports that Baofeng and CCTV had been in contact regarding possible partnerships, but declined to comment on the progress of discussions between the two companies.
