Dianji Releases Gaming-on-Demand Client

Beijing-based instant messaging platform developer Dianji Technology announced the release of its new "Lava Game Box" online gaming client product today. The core technology behind "Lava" is Dianji's self-developed "gaming-on-demand" (GOD) technology, which functions in a similar fashion to video-on-demand (VOD) technology. The first time a Lava user clicks on a game, he or she will need to wait for about ten minutes while the game downloads; as the user plays the game, the backend system will load all necessary application and game content into a local buffer, allowing for instantaneous startup the next time the user clicks on the game.
A spokesperson for Dianji's marketing department said that the company had developed the concept of GOD technology a year ago, and earlier this year began partnering with Suzhou-based Snail Game and Beijing-based Object Software, among other developers, on trials of the technology in more than 20 online games. As of the end of August, some 6 mln users had signed up for the developer and beta editions of Lava Game Box.
The current version of Lava Game Box is 2.1. The 3 MB application provides support for the GOD technology as well as more than 100 popular MMORPGs and several hundred single-player games, and several thousand casual games and browser games.
