Southern Metropolitan News, 10/11/10
China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) is currently in talks with Qualcomm and Apple regarding the CDMA iPhone 4, according to a recent research report from Deutsche Bank. The same report says that China Telecom so far declines to comment on the rumor.
Apple has already made plans with US mobile operator Verizon to produce 3 mln CDMA iPhones for Verizon this December using Qualcomm chips, with sales to begin in early 2011.
Editor's Note: According to Taiwanese media reports, both Verizon and China Telecom will begin selling CDMA iPhone 4 smartphones in early 2011. Recent industry rumors claimed that OEM manufacturer Pegatron Corporation, a subsidiary of Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Asus, had recently joined the CDMA iPhone 4 supply chain and will begin shipping the smartphone in November or December this year, with Pegatron primarily responsible for China Telecom orders and Taiwanese contract manufacturer Foxconn (2038.HK; 2354.TW) handling Verizon orders.
