Google China to Terminate Contract with Ad Resellers

Sina Tech, 10/19/10

Google today announced it will terminate the qualifications of seven authorized ad resellers in China. Google spokeswoman Cindy Qin told Reuters that Google gave the resellers one month's advance notice as of September 27, and authorization will be canceled as of October 27.

Editor's Note: According to China's Economic Observer, Google China placed seven reseller licenses for Northeast China up for auction yesterday, but did not send bidding applications to the seven resellers in question.

Other advertising agencies expressed considerable interest in bidding for the reseller rights, as the seven agencies reportedly had over 10,000 customers and received over RMB 30 mln in annual commissions. Beijing-based Google ad reseller Zoom Interactive Advertising has submitted a bid.

Yesterday evening, employees of the seven resellers staged a day-long sit-in at Google's Shanghai offices awaiting a response from Google headquarters.
