An industry source says Chinese-language media conglomerate Tom Group's (2383.HK) web portal, Tom Online, began major layoffs at its wireless division yesterday, reducing headcount by 20% to 30% overall, and completely closing some departments. Layoffs focused on Tom's products, operations, and business employees; only technical employees emerged unscathed. The layoffs are believed to be related to Tom Wireless's poor performance.
