Rumor: China Mobile TD-SCDMA Tender Results Misreported

An industry source claimed today that the new results for China Mobile's (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) latest TD-SCDMA handset tender differ somewhat from earlier reports. The twelve mid-range feature phones procured through the tender will all be from domestic brands: ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ) led with three handset models; Huawei followed with two, tying with Yulong Coolpad and Lenovo (0992.HK); T-Smart, Hisense, and New Postcom each won bids for one handset. Of the winning handsets, 7 used TD-SCDMA chips from Leadcore, 3 from Spreadtrum, and 2 from ST-Ericsson; for CMMB functionality, 5 used chips from Siano, 4 from Innofidei, and 3 from Spreadtrum.
