Rumor: China Unicom Reveals PON Tender Results

China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) has tallied results for its 2010 broadband PON equipment tender, according to an industry source. Total procurement tenders reached 15 mln lines, up from the initially planned 13 mln. Chinese telecom equipment manufacturer Huawei won the bulk of contracts, approximately 50%. ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ) received the second largest share, approximately 30%. Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell (ASB) won approximately 8%, while Fiberhome (600498.SH) and Ericsson won approximately 6% and 5%, respectively. Half of the winning bids are GPON equipment tenders.
