Google China Expands Video, Display Ad Business

Sohu IT, 12/07/10

John Liu, global VP in charge of the Greater China region for Google, recently told the Financial Times that Google China is expanding its video and banner display advertising services to compensate for losses in China's online search market.

Liu said that in the past 12 months, China has become one of Google's largest display ad markets worldwide and continues to grow rapidly. Liu is optimistic about Google's China business because Google's traffic remains high and revenues are growing each quarter.

Liu added that he believes China's display ad market is far larger than its search ad market.

In addition to the domestic display ad market, Google aims to attract Chinese advertisers to place ads on its websites overseas. Liu said these "export" ads contribute an estimated 33%-50% of Google China's total revenues.

Google continues to employ approximately the same number of R&D and sales personnel as last year, according to Liu.
