Oriental Cable Establishes Smart Terminal Developers Alliance

CCTime, 6/21/12

Song Xuhong, deputy director of the chief engineering office at Shanghai Media Group (SMG) cable TV subsidiary Oriental Cable Network, revealed recently that OCN has established a core developer alliance through its NGB and smart terminals workgroup, in hopes of promoting the establishment of standards for the smart broadcast terminals industry. Song predicted that the alliance would begin to make small-scale deployments in the areas of smart TVs and smart set-top boxes (STBs) in September of this year, before applying to the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) for certification of its standards next year. The company hopes that SARFT will help to promote the standards.

As of the end of 2011, OCN had 2 mln NGB subscriber households in Shanghai. That figure is expected to grow to 4.5 mln households by the end of this year.
