Tianyu Announces First Quad-Core Smartphone

Sina Digi, 8/09/12

Chinese handset vendor Tianyu Communication Equipment officially announced its first quad-core smartphone, the K-Touch II V8, in Beijing today. The handset uses an NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor clocked at 1.5 GHz, and abandons Alibaba Group subsidiary Alibaba Cloud Computing ("AliCloud")'s Aliyun OS in favor of a slightly tweaked version of Android 4.0. Pre-orders for the RMB 1,999 handset opened today.

Controversy has raged around AliCloud's operating system since the launch of the first Aliyun handset, the W700. The heavily reskinned Android operating system ran more slowly than stock Android systems, causing many handset retailers to flash Aliyun handsets with a stock Android system installation at sale.
