Rumor: Foxconn to Manufacture LeTV Smart TV

Cheaa.com, 10/12/12

Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Foxconn (2038.HK; 2354.TW) will manufacture Chinese online video site LeTV's (Leshi) (300104.SZ) new 60-inch smart TV, according to Taiwanese media reports. LeTV will release an initial batch of 3 mln smart TVs before the Thanksgiving holiday in the US, mainland China, and Taiwan. The smart TV will come equipped with LeTV's smart TV cloud platform and access to LeTV's television and movie library.

Foxconn recently took a 46% stake in Japanese conglomerate Sharp's 10G LCD production facility in Osaka, Japan, which will allow the company to procure the 60- to 80-inch LCD panels used in production of smart TV sets.

LeTV announced its "LeTV Super TV" in late September. At the time of the release, LeTV also revealed that the company had already selected a manufacturer for the TV.
