Itavcn.com, 5/15/13

The Chinese government is reportedly preparing to announce new energy efficiency standards for flat-panel televisions. The standards will increase average efficiency for LCD and plasma televisions, and will add standards for on-mode power consumption, dynamic mode power consumption, and power fluctuation levels.

Values for the three classes of LCD TV energy efficiency targets will be raised from the current 1.4, 1.0, and 0.6 to 2.7, 2.0, and 1.3. For plasma TVs, the values will be raised from 1.2, 1.0, and 0.6 to 2.0, 1.6, and 1.2, respectively.

According to data from TV manufacturers and regulation and certification authorities, the proportion of Class-1 flat-panel TVs will fall from the current level of 70% to 30% after the new standards are introduced. The proportion of Class-2 TVs will increase from 30% to 55%, while the proportion of Class-3 TVs will increase from 0% to 15%.
