China Mobile Tenders Bid to Construct Ground-to-Air Network

China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) has announced that the company is tendering bids to construct a ground-to-air broadband communication system. According to industry sources, this may be an attempt by China Mobile to provide an in-flight broadband network for an unnamed major airline. China Mobile Communications Corporation Government and Enterprise Service Company, a subsidiary of China Mobile's parent company established in July 2012, issued the request for tender.
The tender stipulates that proposals for any ground-to-air communication system submitted to China Mobile must be capable of supporting up to 1,500 simultaneous users, and be able to service up to 10 flights at any given time.
