BesTV Wins English Football New Media Broadcasting Rights

Shanghai Media Group subsidiary BesTV New Media (600637.SH) has announced that it has obtained the mainland China new media broadcasting rights for seasons 2013/2014 through 2018/2019 of the English Premier League football (soccer) league. BesTV has also invested USD 1.85 mln to obtain 14% ownership in media company Super Sports Media, the owner of said rights.
According to BesTV's announcement, the company's board has further agreed to give company management authorization to purchase multiple years of broadcasting rights for other entertainment programs and sports competitions. The board has limited each purchasing contract to under RMB 200 mln and for a period of one year only.
In addition to the English Premier League, BesTV has also recently extended its contract with the NBA for exclusive IPTV rebroadcast rights in China for an additional three years. The company has also entered into partnerships with over-the-top (OTT) content and mobile TV service providers.
Editor's Note: Super Sports Media holds the mainland China and Macau broadcasting rights for all 2010/11-2018/19 EPL matches and is authorized to sell these rights to third-party broadcasters.
