Rumor: China Mobile's WLAN Procurement Stalled

C114, 9/18/13

According to an industry insider, China Mobile's (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) 2012 WLAN equipment tender has stalled, possibly due to differences of opinion between the company's procurement department and its network construction department. The WLAN tender for 1.5 mln access points (APs) was launched in 2012, with China Mobile announcing 10 qualified suppliers in May 2013. Following the release of the tender results, the selected manufacturers have yet to receive any WLAN equipment orders from China Mobile, leading to speculation that the procurement has stalled.
