MIIT Requires Handset Makers to List Pre-Installed Apps
Sina Tech, 10/25/13
During a press conference focused on the state of China's communications industry in Q3 2013, Zhu Jun, Deputy Director of the Communications Bureau at China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), announced new regulations governing the preloading of software on smartphones. In addition to previously announced rules, the MIIT now requires handset manufacturers to publish a list of pre-installed software and related information in handset manuals or on official websites so users can compare the software that comes pre-installed on their handsets with the list published by the manufacturer. If users discover discrepancies, the MIIT will promptly investigate the situation and resolve it.
