Huawei to Market 'Honor' as Independent Brand
Tencent Tech, 11/25/13
Richard Yu, CEO of Chinese telecom equipment and terminal manufacturer Huawei's Consumer Business Group (CBG), has announced on his personal microblogging account that the company's "Honor" handset brand will be expanded into an independent brand, with marketing independent of the Huawei brand. Yu expects the brand to be officially launched next month.
According to Yu, Huawei will release two Honor brand handsets in December, emphasizing that the Honor brand will be independent of Huawei, and will focus on sales via e-commerce channels. An insider has stated that the Honor's product planning, channel strategy, pricing, and promotions will be entirely independent of Huawei once established.
Shao Yang, VP of Huawei's terminal subsidiary Huawei Device, has stated that Huawei's operator channel product sales last year accounted for more than 80% of total sales. This year, operator channels have thus far accounted for less than 70%. Honor series sales volume has exceeded 5 mln units so far in 2013.
