MIIT to Begin Private Sector Broadband Network Trials in H2

Cao Shumin, director of the China Academy of Telecommunication Research (CATR), a department of China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), has stated that the MIIT plans to focus on the implementation of privately-owned (non state-owned) fixed-line broadband network access trials in H2 2014. An industry source has revealed that the MIIT has already prepared draft documents for private sector network access trials, with a formal announcement and company application process to be revealed in the future.
The above-mentioned pilot project will reportedly be unveiled in 2014, with the MIIT likely to begin accepting service applications in the second half of the year. Private enterprises may be allowed to begin operation of privately owned broadband access services as soon as Q2 2015.
