WeMade, Tencent to End 'Moon Wolf' Licensing Agreement

GameLook, 5/13/14

Korean game developer WeMade announced during a recent earnings conference that the company is in talks with Chinese internet and mobile services firm Tencent (0700.HK) regarding termination of a contract signed between the two companies in June 2013 licensing WeMade's mobile fighting game Moon Wolf to Tencent for operation in China. According to WeMade, the contract's termination is due to differences of opinion between the two parties. While talks are still ongoing, WeMade indicated that Moon Wolf will not be distributed in China through Tencent moving forward, and WeMade will find alternative distribution channels for the game.

Since its launch in Korea in August 2013, Moon Wolf has suffered a continuous decline in popularity on Korea's Google Play app store, sliding to such an extent that the game no longer ranks among Google Play Korea's top 500 games.

From April 10 to May 11, Tencent released a series of 6 mobile games on the respective gaming channels of the company's WeChat and Mobile QQ platforms: 3D casual dancing game Quanmin Xuanwu (April 10), casual mini-game collection All Together, Pong Pong Pong (April 18), city-building social game WeTown (April 21), fighting game We Fight (April 28), 3D RPG Taming Monsters (May 11), and tower defense strategy game Castle Clash (May 11). Tencent has yet to give Moon Wolf an official launch in China.
