Hangzhou-based Guangfa Technology, operator of online hospital appointment-booking website Guahao, has raised USD 100 mln in funding led by Chinese internet and mobile services firm Tencent (0700.HK). Tencent will work together with Guahao, exploring collaborative opportunities in the online medical services space.
Guahao was released in 2010 and currently holds partnerships with over 900 hospitals from 23 provinces nationwide. The website serves 37 mln registered users, and 120,000 doctors utilize the platform to provide appointment booking services.
Upon completion of the funding, Guahao plans to launch a mobile medical treatment platform called "Weiyi Pingtai" ("Micro Doctor Platform").
Guahao founder and CEO Liao Jieyuan has stated that, although Tencent has taken a stake in the company, Guahao will maintain independent operations. As described by Liao, the upcoming Weiyi mobile medical platform will provide three main services:
1. Weiyi will assist hospitals in optimizing the medical treatment processes, including triage, in-hospital guidance, registration, doctor's appointment management, report inquiries and payment support;
2. Doctors can use the Weiyi platform to set up a "personal brand," conduct online consultations, and establish a network of patients for their practice;
3. Weiyi will connect with Tencent's mobile messaging apps WeChat and QQ, allowing users on each platform to easily communicate with hospitals and doctors, and receive medical services.
Editor's Note: According to IT Juzi, Modern Property Capital, MorningSide and Qiming Venture Partners participated in this funding.
