Rumor: China Unicom to Add 300K 3G Base Stations in 2015

Sina Tech, 11/14/14

According to an industry insider, China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) plans to build an additional 300,000 3G base stations in 2015, bringing the company's total number of 3G base stations to 730,000. Though the additional deployment, China Unicom will look to build out its 3G network coverage to rival that of China Mobile's (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) slower 2G network.

At the same time, China Unicom will construct 150,000 4G FDD-LTE base stations, giving it a total of 330,000 FDD-LTE base stations, and providing continuous 4G coverage across major city- and town-level administrative districts in China.

China Unicom has yet to confirm the news.
