We Doctor Group Invests in Maternity Healthcare Solutions Provider Beilian

36Kr.com, 10/27/16

Online and mobile healthcare solutions developer We Doctor Group recently announced that it has completed a strategic investment in Shanghai-based maternity healthcare solutions provider Beilian Information Technology. We Doctor Group is now Beilian's largest shareholder and Beilian will be renamed "We Doctor Beilian."

We Doctor Group said that Beilian holds licenses that enable it to legally provide online maternity hospital services, and that following the investment it will continue to establish online maternity hospitals and offer O2O services. Online services include online reservations and diagnosis, while offline services include offline specialty clinics and surgery services for mothers and children. We Doctor Beilian will also set up a special maternal healthcare industry investment fund.

Beilian, established in 2014, mainly offers a free Wi-Fi service for maternity hospitals under the brand "Hos-WiFi." It also operates a mobile maternal healthcare consultation app called "Yunmi" and an e-commerce app for maternity products called "Yabi."

We Doctor Group said that Beilian's Hos-Wifi service currently extends to more than 1,500 hospitals in 382 cities throughout China and has more than 100 mln users.

Editor's Note: Chinese internet portal Sina, covering the news above, also reported that Beilian previously completed Series B investment in January 2016, but did not provide any details about the size of the round or the investors. Chinese IT industry investment information portal IT Juzi, however, details only Series A, A+, and the strategic investment from We Doctor, but does not show Beilian as having secured any Series B funding.
