Didi Express to Intro Time-based Pricing Model, Increase Base Fare in Beijing
CNR, 4/08/17
Xiaoju Kuaizhi Inc ("Didi Chuxing"), operator of Chinese mobile taxi booking and car hire apps Didi Chuxing and Kuaidi Dache, recently announced that its low-end car hire service Didi Express will introduce a time-based pricing model and new fare standards in Beijing starting April 10, including pricing incentives during non-peak travel periods. The service's starting fare will be adjusted to RMB 13, a slight increase from its current RMB 10 starting fare.
The time-based pricing model and new fare standards mean that fares will decrease for rides between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM, particularly for medium- and long-distance rides, through a decrease in per-kilometer charges. By contrast, fare prices for morning and afternoon peak travel periods and for late-night ride service will increase, and the start of "late-night" service will be shifted earlier by two hours to cover the hours between 9:00 PM and 11:00 PM during which it is most difficult to hail a cab. This adjustment is intended to increase the number of available vehicles.
Didi Chuxing also announced ride-hailing statistics for the Beijing region in March, showing that the time period with the greatest success rate for hailing a ride was between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM, at 83.2%. The time period with the worst success rate was between 9:00 PM and 11:00 PM, with an average success rate of 54.1%, showing that nearly half of users were unable to arrange a ride during this time period.
