A China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) insider in Shanghai has revealed that the company has signed an agreement with the Ministry of Construction on management of urban management networks in 28 cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Yangzhou and Chengdu, across 12 provinces. An urban management network is already in use in central Shanghai, with roll-out across the rest of Shanghai to come.
Urban management networks divide cities into network units. These units are patrolled by superintendents who can report problems via portable handsets to a control center for handling.
