Rumor: Government to Lift Ban on Internet Cafe Licenses

Wbzol.com, 1/04/08

Industry sources have revealed that the government ban on issuing new Internet cafe licenses will come to an end in 2008. The application process is expected to be made easier than before, with the government also implementing policy to encourage the opening of new internet cafes, especially chain cafes. Some cities have already started the process of issuing new licenses.

After 14 ministries jointly banned the issuance of new licenses from February 2007, existing licenses began to trade at prices in excess of RMB 1 mln in some cities.
