Rumor: Netease to License Blizzard's StarCraft II

Caijing.com.cn, 1/29/08

An executive from a domestic online gaming company has revealed that the first online game that Netease (Nasdaq: NTES) will represent as an agent may be Blizzard's StarCraft II. However, Netease CEO William Ding (Ding Lei) has only stated that "the company is looking at many games" but "hasn't yet formally signed a contract".

Netease marketing director Li Riqiang has expressed that the reason that Netease still hasn't represented overseas games is that: Netease needs to consider whether foreign products can meet the needs of the Chinese market; and, in terms of business negotiations, Netease does not want to pay an excessively high price to compete for a game.
