Unicom Luxury Handset in High Demand

Sohu IT, 2/01/08

The retail price of a luxury CDMA mobile phone from China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) has rocketed after selling 30,000 units in its first eighteen days on sale. Initially launched in November with an RMB 8,830 price tag, the Samsung-made "Earl" (SCH-W629) dual-mode, dual-standby handset is now selling at RMB 12,888 in Carrefour. The price increase is due to a limited supply of the devices from Unicom's handset subsidiary Huasheng.
