According to an informed source, four more manufacturers have been awarded network access permits for TD-SCDMA devices - Holley, Yulong, Huawei and Panda. Permits have been granted for four mobile phone models and two types of data cards. The second round of TD-SCDMA procurement has also got off to a low-key start.
A Holley official indicated that the firm has obtained network access permits for one mobile phone, the 8310, and a data card, the 8501.
Meanwhile Yulong marketing director said it now has a permit for its 6260 phone.
Like Holley, Huawei obtained permits for both a handset and a data card product, but product details were not given.
This brings the total number of manufacturers holding network access permits to 10.
Holley and other TD-SCDMA manufacturers have indicated that China Mobile's (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) second round of TD-SCDMA procurement is underway, with results due in March or April. However, there has been no official indication of the scale of procurement.
