SARFT Promotes Terrestrial DTV

SARFT has convened meetings in Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Shenyang, Qingdao, Qinhuangdao, Guangzhou and Shenzhen on terrestrial DTV promotion and kicked off promotional work nationwide on the national terrestrial DTV standard.
Deputy Director Zhang Haitao of SARFT said that the Party Central Committee and the State Council both expected to see terrestrial broadcasts of HDTV programming during the Olympic Games this summer, and wanted to ensure that broadcasts would begin by that time. Feng Jingfeng, vice director of the Wireless Institute at SARFT's Academy of Broadcasting Planning, said that under current plans, terrestrial DTV broadcasts in the 7 cities other than Beijing will begin in March, with broadcasts in all capital cities across the country possible within the year.
