Gome to Handle Client Services for Chongqing Mobile Users

Chongqing Evening News, 2/29/08

Chongqing Mobile and Gome (0493.HK) have signed a three-year deal which will see Gome provide SIM cards and mobile bill payment services for China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) users from its 25 outlets in the city, as well as sell the operator's customized handsets. The two parties will also share information on VIP customers, and Gome will profit from sales of handsets and services.

Gome has agreed that the partnership with China Mobile will be exclusive.

This arrangement is being referred to within both firms as the 'Chongqing Model', and is very likely to be rapidly rolled out across further locations if successful.

Chongqing Mobile sold 300,000 customized handsets in 2007, a 15% share of the city's entire handset sales. A sales target of double that figure, 600,000, has been set for 2008.
