Rumor: China Mobile to Purchase 300,000 TD-SCDMA Handsets

A senior executive of a China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) partner company revealed yesterday that China Mobile is strongly committed to promoting TD-SCDMA, and plans to purchase 300,000 TD-SCDMA handsets before the Olympic Games begin this August. At present, the company is hurrying to put together base stations to repair blind spots in its network, and preparing for operation. The same source said that China Mobile currently has 15,000 TD-SCDMA base stations capable of supporting up to 10 mln TD-SCDMA users.
